Julia ‘Mike’ Mikerova and Björn ‘Becky’ Becker make small-batch bean-to-bar chocolate in the chocolate capital of the world – Brussels. When they opened Mike & Becky in 2016, it was the city's first organic bean‑to‑bar chocolate workshop. “Our journey into chocolate making began with a simple, shared love for its magic power to bring joy and a curiosity about cacao and its origins. At Mike & Becky, we're not just making a product; we're crafting an experience. Our passion lies in the philosophy of openness and transparency—sourcing exceptional single-origin cacao, talking about farmers and using minimal, high-quality ingredients. What makes our chocolate special is its honesty. By focusing on just a few ingredients, we let the true, vibrant flavors of the bean shine through. It's a taste of the place it came from, a tribute to the farmer's craft, and a celebration of real chocolate.”
— Julia 'Mike' Mikerova & Björn 'Becky' Becker
Julia and Björn’s passion began in Prague’s Chococafe, where they discovered fine hot chocolate from around the globe, and the concept of single origin cacao. Disappointed by Brussels’ offerings, they immersed themselves in the bean‑to‑bar movement, quickly launching their online shop “Bean2Bar2You” before opening their own atelier in Brussels.
Mike & Becky is a transparent, sustainable chocolate brand grounded in fairness and quality. They import cocoa beans directly from around six cooperatives, across regions such as Peru, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, India, and more – always prioritizing cooperatives that reject child labor, pay fair prices, and use organic and eco‑responsible practices. Their current chocolate factory runs entirely on green energy, demonstrating their commitment to environmentally-friendly chocolate making.
In March 2025, Mike & Becky’s public-facing workshop and cafe closed, as they wanted to focus more of their time and creativity on crafting exceptional chocolate.
Mike & Becky have a small-batch, hands-on approach to making chocolate, using the best fair-trade organic cacao beans, organic beet sugar and a touch of organic cacao butter. They handle every stage of production in-house – from bean roasting to grinding, conching, tempering, and packaging.
Their selection of bars features fascinating flavours, including Juicy Mango, Smooth Walnut, Genmaicha, and Pecorino. They also create 20g mini bars, including Oat Cappuccino and Raspberry Mint.
Mike & Becky’s packaging beautifully conveys crucial information about cacao origins and the plantations they work with. Both inside and outside of their bars you’ll find illustrated animal ambassadors from the countries where the cacao is sourced, along with plantation names and a full illustration of where each step of the bean-to-bar process takes place. Transparency is key, in every part of Julia and Bjorn’s work.
