Sisters A. Chocolate
Lutsk, Ukraine
Sisters A. Chocolate is a bean-to-bar craft chocolate company based in Lutsk, Western Ukraine, and founded by sisters Olena and Oleksandra. What began in 2018 as Oleksandra’s home-based praline experiments blossomed into a thriving artisan operation, inspired by a shared passion for creativity and flavour experiments. After a few years of research and kitchen experiments, Olena and Oleksandra officially launched their company in January 2021. Just over a year later, Russia invaded Ukraine, and Olena and Oleksandra’s lives were turned upside down.

Ukraine Chocolate Maker
Alongside an uncompromising dedication to quality, this family-run business has deep respect for nature, farmers, and manual labor. Olena and Oleksandra source “fino de aroma” cacao beans from origins such as Tanzania, Madagascar, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Colombia. Their production is very labour-intensive, and includes roasting, grinding, molding and wrapping the bars by hand, with the help of a team of eight employees. Recently they were able to invest in a new tempering machine – thanks in-part to selling chocolate through Chocolate Squirrel – which has increased their production capacity from 2000 to around 5000 bars a month.
Unfortunately, we cannot talk about a Ukrainian chocolate maker without talking about Russia’s ongoing invasion of the country. Despite the unimaginable challenges posed by this awful situation – air raids, power outages, disrupted logistics – the sisters remain steadfast, producing chocolate with resilience and hope. They continue to craft chocolate even amid blackouts, turning the making of chocolate into both artistic and healing work. We are truly inspired by their strength and dedication, and it’s an honour to share both their chocolate and their story.
“We want the world to know Ukraine not only through the lens of war. Our country is home to talented people and outstanding producers creating high-quality products every day. We are proud to be among them - crafting something beautiful, meaningful, and made with heart. It brings us great joy when people around the world discover and appreciate what we do. Let Ukraine be known for its creativity, resilience, and excellence - not just its struggles” – Olena and Oleksandra
Making any kind of chocolate in these conditions is impressive, but Sisters A. Chocolate is of the highest calibre. Their velvety-smooth bars offer a beautiful journey of flavours, whether from the notes of fine-flavour cacao, or from added flavours like Bee Pollen, Raspberries, or Cherry & Juniper. In 2024, they picked up six Academy of Chocolate Awards, including Gold for their Madagascar 75% bar, silver for their Tanzania 72%, and silver for their Specialty Coffee, Peru 55% bar.
